Yoga Beyond Just Posture-
A weekend of dynamic vinyasa yoga, breathing, and philosophy with Adrian Phillip Cox
Lotus Yoga Center, Prague Czech Republic
April 12-13 2008

Adrian teaches dynamic Vinyasa yoga using foundations in Ashtanga, and Ayurveda while incorporating esoteric techniques of mantra, visualization, and energy work. Originally certified to teach yoga under Cyndi Lee of Om Yoga in New York City and the Bihar School of Yoga in Munger, India, Adrian has spent ten years in Asia teaching Sanskrit, meditation, Hatha yoga, and Ayurveda. He is the founder of Yoga Elements Studio in Bangkok which was ranked Asia's top school of yoga by Travel and Leisure magazine in 2007
Agni Yoga - explore the relationship between inner fire, and the cosmic fire through mantra, solar breathing, dynamic vinyasa sequencing, and postures- all of which will expand your inner brightness and levels of concentration. Important philosophical dialogue while practicing will guide you to new levels of internal concentration and targeted seated meditation will integrate what you experience into pure stillness. 2 hours, intermediate and advanced students. No food in stomach minimum two hours before class and maximum of 20 students only.
Awaken the Spine- Going beyond standard backbends; this two hour workshop will guide you to develop spinal intelligence from the inside out. If backbends has either hurt in the past, or are ready for a new level of backbend freedom, come explore new ways of integrating all postures and movement through the spine. You will learn spinal anatomy, the mechanics of breathing in relation to backbends, and alternative, delightful, and pain-free ways of forming a circle backwards. Includes twisting postures. 2 hours, intermediate and advanced students
Vyana-Samana Bliss- Vyana is the expanding, radiant aspect of the cosmic ‘Prana’ and Samana is the contracting, inward moving aspect. Experience deeper, more internalized yoga and meditation and better powers of digestion through mastery of Samana, and greater self confidence and influence on people through the mastery of Vyana. Employing specific ways of doing yoga postures, dynamic Vinyasa sequencing, internal locks, breathing, and visualization, will give you the direct experience of your own internal flow of energy and a new understanding of it’s use in yoga. 2 hours, all levels welcome!
Prana, Pranayama, and Pranayama kriyas - The Yoga Upanishads state that as the mind moves, energy moves. This has implications in how you live your life, and your personal ability to create the life you desire. Through an exploration of the five patterns of energy in the cosmos, visualization techniques, internal locks, and the traditional system of pranayama of Mysore, you will come to experience why the practice of pranayama is extolled as the means by which the "veil covering reality is removed". Students typically leave this class high and blissed-out and the after glow of continued application of techniques taught in this course are indescribably positive and life-shifting. This will not be a very physical class, although you must be comfortable with sitting on the floor. 2 hours all levels welcome!
ASHTANGA INSPIRED WEEKEND WITH ADRIAN PHILLIP COX Penang, Malaysia 27-28 January 2008
- Cosmic intelligence - practicing correct Vinyasa through breath and bandha
- Feet as foundation for energy- sun salutations and standing postures
- A Peaceful Mind - Forward bends and hip openers
- Vital energy - Backward bending and inversions

If you are ready to look deeply within your body-mind and explore your yoga practice on a different level then this weekend series with regional yoga teacher Adrian Cox will be something you will not want to miss. Adrian teaches yoga based on techniques for the five bodies or levels of experience: posture for the physical body, breath for the energetic body, mantra and concentration for the mental body, and devotion and gratitude for the emotional body. From this your radiant spirit naturally unfolds, life transforms, and the goal of yoga is realized. Students of all levels and ages are welcome!
Adrian has studied hatha yoga, pranayama, yogic medicine and yoga philosophy since 1992 and led him to become a certified Vinyasa teacher under Cyndi Lee of Om Yoga in New York in 2000. Adrian has also studied closely with the Bihar School of Yoga in Munger India , Yogi Vikashanand of Kathmandu Nepal , BNS Iyengar and Venkatesh of Mysore. He is certified in Ayurvedic medicine under Dr. David Frawley, and continues to study Vedic astrology and Kashmir Shaivism. He is the director founder of Yoga Elements Studio in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Power of Sanskrit Mantra- Mantras are asanas for the mind, which liberate the mind from stuck patterns of thinking. The mind shapes your experience in reality (or reality itself), so it makes sense to tend to the shape of the mind itself. You will learn about the Shaivaite theory of four levels of speech, how to construct a mantra, what is Mantra Vidya and Mantra Shakti and finally, practice of key Vedic and Tantric mantras. 1-2 sessions, 2 hours each. All levels, some yoga and meditation experience helpful.
Pranayama- Learn the traditional Mysore series of pranayama: Nadi Shodana, Vishama Vritti, and Chalanara Kundalini Shakti. Students must be comfortable in seated postures (lotus not necessary), and understand ujjayi breathing and the use of bandha. 1-8 sessions, 90 minutes each. Intermediate and advanced levels
Pranayama Kriyas- Exploring the breath on a psychic, meditative level, this mind-expanding session is suited for any level of students, preferably with some meditation and pranayama experience. 1-8 sessions, 90 minutes each. Intermediate and advanced levels.
Meditation- Learn how to sit properly, the 7 states of consciousness, 4 levels of mind, the flow from concentration to Samadhi, and the different stages you will go through on the way to total non-dual liberation. Employing the language of the language of the Yoga Sutra and the 8-limbed method of classical ashtanga yoga as the background, you will learn the fundamental structure behind all meditation systems and then specific practice of Buddhist, Tantric, and Yogic systems of meditation. 1-8 sessions 90 minutes. All levels, some yoga and meditation experience helpful.
Hypnosis for Yoga- Yoga teaches that direct perception of reality is done through altering of the minds patterns. Hypnosis teaches we can access our highest potentials through altered states. The interface between yoga, meditation and hypnosis will help you and your students access untapped potential, and freedom from negative mental conditioning. Especially useful for public speakers or teachers, as you will learn how to use your words and voice tone to bring out the most out of your students. You will experience a hypnosis session, and then learn how to safely practice these techniques with others. 1-2 sessions, two hours. All levels
Sankhya Philosophy- To really understand yoga, you must first understand Sankhya. This simple to apply view of reality was the dominant philosophy at the time when yoga was codified as a system by Patanjali. 2 hours, all levels.
Yoga Sutras of Patanjali- This is my specialty, and forms the basis of so much of the theory and technology of the way I teach meditation and yoga. This course uses call and response chanting of the original Sanskrit and discourse and disussion on the meanings of each sutra. Explanations bring in theory from quantum physics, and unusual but
humorous examples which may have you laughing but ultimately understanding this wonderfully profound, canonical text of yoga.
1-12 sessions 2 hours, all levels. (meditation experience helpful)
Subtle Anatomy of Yoga- One of my favorite subjects, I believe that knowledge of your own energetic anatomy will provide the essential roadmap to higher practice in yoga. This fascinating course involves physical, vocal, and mental exercises to help you learn about the chakras, meridian lines, and the five bodies. What you learn here will directly apply to yoga, and give you new tools to genuinely take your practice deeper. 1-10 sessions 2 hours, all levels.
Ayurvedic Nutrition- What you eat makes a big impact on the quality of the mind and your health. The upanishads teach that the subtle part of food goes to create the mind, the middle part goes to form the body, and the remainder is turned into waste. In this interesting workshop, learn about Ayurvedic psychology, physical constitutions, disease tendencies, and most importantly, how to balance the mind and body for you or your students through food recommendations. 1-4 sessions, 2 hours each, all levels |
Wake Up Your Sun Salutations – You will learn the Tantric practice of Surya Namaskar, incorporating visualization, mantra, and prayer with the body’s postures in a fascinating moving meditation. Then each posture of the traditional Surya Namaskar A, B and the lesser known “C” is analyzed and perfected. Beginning through Advanced students alike benefit from this class. “I could tell which of my students had taken your Wake Up Your Sun Salutations” class last week, because the ones who did looked so much better practicing than before!” – Cerissa Nyen, co-teacher at yoga elements studio 2 hours, all levels
Bandha and the Flow of Breath – Clear up your misunderstandings surrounding this crucial practice and learn the REAL reason bandha is used in practice. It’s not what most people think! Through this class you will learn nauli kriya and gain “prana vidya” -a tangible experience of the flow of the Five Pranas inside your body. Then this will flow into a led vinyasa class. Alternative theories of breathing are discussed. Class ends with seated pranayama. 2 hours, all levels
Spread Your Toes- Standing Asana- Urban yoga myth has it that celebrated Ashtanga teacher Richard Freeman first noticed his then future wife by her wonderfully spread open toes. Who knows what could happen when you too apply “tadasana feet”? This simple, yet crucial understanding of alignment through the feet will transform the entire body, and strengthen mula bandha. 2 hours, all levels
Awaken the Spine- My back bending teacher, Paddy McGrath declares “Open the body through the spine!” Following in the same thinking, this class will teach you the anatomy of the spine, the mechanics of breathing in relation to backbends, and alternative, delightful, and pain-free ways of forming a circle backwards. Includes twisting postures. 2 hours, intermediate and advanced levels
Ashtanga On The Left- Is it illegal? Starting postures on the right is the masculine path to moksha, liberation. Initiating on the left however is considered the path to psychic development (siddhi). Learn about the tantric path of the moon channel by exploring the traditional Ashanga Vinyasa sequence of postures: but done with the left side of the done first: opposite to the way it is traditionally practiced. WHY? Here you'll find out.
Floating Upside Down- This begins with nauli kriya, some work with bandha and breathing, and then a led-vinyasa warm-up. You will clear up all questions and alignment surrounding headstand, and all the arm balances. 2 hours, intermediate and advanced levels
Lotus Lane- Open hips form the gateway to seated meditation postures, but can take years to develop, particularly for people habituated to sitting in chairs. One of my favorite subjects, I will give you some unusual and very effective hip openers which may just have you sitting comfortably in lotus by the end of the class! Ends with pranayama and meditation. 2 hours, all levels
Chill out with Yin Yoga- Aside from the way it effortlessly develops skill in meditation, Yin Yoga is a highly effective and therapeutic reversal of the striving we aim towards with Yang Vinyasa style. Long, slow holding of postures led a friend of mine (practiced over one years period of time) to make improvements in flexibility she previously thought of as being "impossible". 2 hours, all levels
